Biography
South Australian performer Alex Bond has been treading the boards for the last five years. At only eighteen he has an already impressive repertoire of opera, musical theatre and straight plays. His initial interest in musical theatre came from hearing Anthony Warlow sing The Phantom of the Opera in 2004. He commenced vocal tuition late in 2004, studying under former Opera Australia soprano Belinda Matonti, covering a range of songs and arias by such composers as Lloyd Webber, Verdi, Vaughan-Williams and Sondheim.
He studied under Belinda Matonti for three years. In 2008 Alex began study at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, while at this institution his vocal tuition was provided by Rosalind Martin. During his time at the Conservatorium, Alex completed a Certificate IV in Music (Classical).
Alex has performed all around Adelaide, with amateur companies like the South Australian Light Opera Society, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Australia, the Onkaparinga City Choral Society, Pier Theatre Company and Galleon Theatre Group. Alex has also performed with State Opera of South Australia and the Melbourne Opera Company.
His performing repertoire includes such roles as Nanki-Poo in the Mikado, Frederic in Pirates of Penzance, The Defendant in Trial by Jury, Alfredo in Die Fledermaus, Samuel in Pirates of Penzance, Luiz in The Gondoliers, Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore, Sir Joseph Porter, KCB in HMS Pinafore, Il Duca di Mantua in Rigoletto, Alfredo Germont in La Traviata and Nigel in Roots and Wings.
2010 will see Alex return to full-time performing after a short break in the second half of 2009. Alex will be performing in concerts and productions in Adelaide throughout the year.
